Woman Spits On Deputies, Brags About Having Infectious Disease: Police

The 32-year-old Grayslake woman faces aggravated battery and drunken driving charges following the Tuesday incident in Volo.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 32-year-old Grayslake woman accused of spitting at officers and then bragging that she had a communicable disease during a drunken driving arrest now faces felony charges.

Kiara Pearson, of the 100 block of Glen St. in Grayslake, was taken into custody at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday after a Lake County Sheriff's Office lieutenant driving in the area of Volo Village Road, just of Route 12 in Volo, noticed her vehicle in a ditch, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. As the lieutenant got closer, Pearson backed her vehicle out of a ditch and into a utility pole.

The lieutenant spoke with Pearson, and she was found to be under the influence, according to the news release. Pearson was initially take to the Lakemoor Police Department, and while being processed, she spit at two sheriff's office deputies, authorities said.

She then bragged about having a communicable disease, according to police.

The sheriff's deputies were taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, and will undergo further testing to determine if they have been infected, according to the news release.

Pearson has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and driving under the influence.
