Woodman's Plans New Grocery Store in Lakemoor

The proposed 240,000-square-foot grocery store would be located at route 12 and 120.

The Woodman’s store would include a free-standing gas station that would include a small convenience store, quick-lube services and a car wash center, according to the tentative agreement reached between Woodman’s Food Market Inc. and the village of Lakemoor. The new store is expected to hire 220 employees.

Woodman’s, which is based in Wisconsin, is an employee-owned and operated company with 17 locations in Illinois and Wisconsin. The stores are known for a large selection of products, offering over 100,000 items in their stores, and low prices.

The agreement is not final. The village of Lakemoor still needs to work out a development agreement with Woodman’s surrounding the property, the Northwest Herald reports. The village will also need to settle a lawsuit filed by a local school district over a planned TIF district for the property.

Village officials hope the addition of Woodman’s, which will be the village’s first grocery store, will lead to more development along Route 12 and Route 120 in Volo and Lakemoor, the Daily Herald reports. Lakemoor Mayor Todd Weihofen told the newspaper the property will also include space for a second big-box store and more than a dozen outlots.
