Yingling Continues Efforts Towards Property Tax Relief; Provides Millions More for Local Schools

ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, recently blocked a potential property tax increase pushed by Gov. Bruce Rauner and instead helped pass legislation that would increase funding for local schools by nearly $7 million while also taking steps towards real property tax relief.

“Illinois’ broken way of funding schools shortchanges our children of the education funding they rightfully deserve while putting an unaffordable burden on Lake County homeowners,” Yingling said. “I am proud to have fought for and have passed a bipartisan compromise that sends more money to our local schools while also paving the way for real property tax relief.”

Yingling supported and helped pass Senate Bill 1947, which creates a new school funding formula whereby local schools that Yingling represents would receive nearly $7 million in additional state funding. Unlike previous proposals introduced in Springfield, this legislation ensures that no Illinois school would lose money. The legislation also provides certain school districts statewide the ability to place a property tax cut referendum on the ballot.

“Illinois’ economic future will be decided by the investments made in our kids today,” Yingling continued. “State leaders have a responsibility to ensure parents the peace of mind that they are providing the resources necessary for their students to succeed.”
