GRAYSLAKE, Ill – To help residents safely dispose of their documents that may contain sensitive information which can lead to identity theft, and to help an area veterans’ organization, state Rep. Sam Yingling, (D-Grayslake), is hosting a Community Shred and Veterans Clothing Drive Event at Grayslake Central High School’s front lot Saturday, August 15 from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

“My free Community Shred and Veterans Drive Event will help residents carefully destroy documents that contain personal information and aid in the collection items needed by local veterans,” Yingling said. “In addition to remaining an open and accessible representative, providing useful events such as this continue to be among my top priorities. Identity theft is a serious issue and many may be unaware that old credit card and bank statements are easy targets for criminals.”

Every year, thousands of residents casually throw away printed personal information. Items like bank receipts, prescription receipts, credit card statement and old bills can end up in the wrong hands. At the event, residents will be able to observe the secure disposal of their documents. Residents must remove all staples and paper clips prior to arrival. Shredding services are free of charge. Additionally, residents are encouraged to donate used men’s gym shoes and new under garments such as, boxers and briefs, to benefit local veterans. Cash and checks are also accepted and all donated items and proceeds will go directly to the 501c3 charity: The Midwest Veterans Closet.

“Shredding old documents will help people protect themselves from identity theft,” Yingling said. “This event is also another way our community can come together to help our brave soldiers by donating shoes and new under garments. I encourage everyone to come out and help by donating, too.”

Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
