Amdur Productions Selects 7 Year Old Winner of Poster Contest

On Monday, October 28, Amdur Productions surprised 7-year-old Layla Lurie as she was named the winner of the Highland Park Commemorative Poster Contest. The contest, which was open to all ages, was held this spring by Amdur Productions to celebrate Highland Park’s 150th Anniversary. The winner was selected based upon creativity, content of design, execution of design and appropriateness of the design.

Current and past residents of the city were encouraged to create a poster that best represents Highland Park and ties in with the theme of the 150th Anniversary. Layla’s design features 65 photos of various landmarks as well as the famous sons and daughters of the Highland Park community. Among those highlighted in her piece were Highland Park natives Golden Globe Winner, actress Rachel Brosnahan from the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Academy Award Winner for his role in “Forest Gump,” actor Gary Sinise, and Olympic medalist, figure skater Jason Brown.

As the winner, Layla received a certificate, a ribbon, a framed poster of her art and a gift card for art supplies. A framed poster of her art was also given to Mayor Rotering for display at City Hall. Layla was accompanied at the ceremony by her mother, father and her “nana” and Highland Park resident, Shelley Lurie. Layla credits her “nana” with driving her to landmarks in Highland Park which she photographed and used in the poster. She was presented the prize by Amy Amdur, founder of the acclaimed Port Clinton Art Festival and president of Amdur Productions and Art Zipper
