The American Legion Highland Park Post #145 Poppy Day Thanks
Residents Make Memorial Poppy Day a Success
The American Legion Highland Park Post #145 would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to those residents of Highland Park and the surrounding communities for their generosity in making the annual Memorial Poppy Day Donation Drive a success. Since the end of World War I until present day, the Memorial Poppy has been worn to remember deceased soldiers and honor living veterans.
We would also like to thank Jewel/OSCO on Deerfield Road and Sunset Foods on Green Bay Road for making their stores available for our Veteran volunteers on Saturday, May 19th and Sunday, May 20th.
All monies received during the donation drive goes to provide financial assistance to hospitalized Veterans in Illinois through the Veteran's Assistance Commission of the Veterans Affairs Department in Waukegan.
Highland Park Post #145, chartered in 1919, participates in many other community activities such as providing scholarships for Highland Park High School students at the Chamber of Commerce Student Honor Dinner; participating in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies; observing Martin Luther King Day; marching in the Independence Day Parade; and visiting Veterans at the VA Hospital in North Chicago.
