HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park police are asking for the public's help after a driver reported hearing gunshots from a passing vehicle Friday morning near northbound Edens Expressway/Route 41.

According to the Highland Park Police Department, police and fire personnel responded at 10:12 a.m. Friday to reports of shots fired in that area. One individual, described by police as an approximately 60-year-old man, heard gunshots from a passing vehicle and then observed damage to his own vehicle.

The driver was able to pull over safely and make a report to police. He also obtained the license plate number and a description of the vehicle he believed was involved. Paramedics evaluated the driver for minor injuries and released him at the scene.

Investigators are now searching for a vehicle matching the description provided in the report. Police identified the vehicle of interest as a dark blue Acura MDX with Illinois license plate FF68243. Police said they believe the vehicle has left the area.

At this point, investigators are also working to determine which agency has jurisdiction over the incident. According to the department, that question remains open because the driver was able to move from the location of the crime before contacting police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle to call 911.
