HIGHWOOD, IL — A Beach Park burglary investigation led to the overnight arrest of a 21-year-old Highwood man after deputies responded to two calls minutes apart, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
One resident called deputies at about 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday to report a suspicious person at their home in the 12100 block of West Bonnie Brook Lane. The caller was not home and reported seeing someone on the property through a camera system on their phone.
As deputies arrived, another 911 caller reported that a vehicle had just been burglarized in the 37400 block of North McAree, according to the sheriff's office. The caller reported chasing the offender before he was able to flee and provided a clothing description.
Deputies then located a man matching that description who was riding a bicycle near Metropolitan Avenue and Warner Street in Beach Park, according to the sheriff's office. The man fled from deputies, but after a brief foot pursuit, deputies arrested him.
The sheriff's office identified him as Julian Nava, 21, of the 200 block of North Avenue in Highwood. The sheriff's office reported that Nava was found in possession of proceeds taken during the vehicle burglary.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved charges of Burglary, a Class 3 felony, Criminal Trespass to Vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, and Resisting a Peace Officer, a Class A misdemeanor.
"This is a great example of our deputies' attentiveness and swift police work," Sheriff John D. Idleburg said. "They quickly recognized the connection between the calls, located the suspect, and took him into custody. Our 911 telecommunicators quickly relayed information to deputies in the field, helping bring this incident to a swift resolution.
