Apply Now: 23rd Annual Walgreens National Concerto Competition

Pre-college musicians are invited to apply to compete in the 23rd Annual Walgreens National Concerto Competition.

The Walgreens National Concerto Competition is designed to give young musicians a positive learning experience in a competitive and supportive environment. Professional judges provide constructive feedback about what the student is performing well and what areas need improvement. Students receive a video of their performance in addition to written juror's comments.

Eligibility
MYAC ORCHESTRA DIVISION:
Must be an active participant in MYAC Orchestra Program.
Junior Level for students in 8th grade and younger, Senior Level for high school students.

OPEN DIVISION
:
For all other entrants, including MYAC's Chamber Music, Choral and Jazz programs.
Junior Level for students in 8th grade and younger, Senior Level for high school students.
The competition is open to all instruments, which are judged in the following categories:
String, Piano, Voice, Winds & Percussion and "Early Music".
*Students are automatically entered in the "Early Music" category - in addition to their instrument category - if the piece they are performing was written before 1800. Strings, harpsichord, recorders, gamba winds and brass are encouraged to participate.

Awards and Prizes

MYAC Orchestra Division:

One Junior Level overall winner
One Senior Level overall winner

Open Division:

One Junior Level winner
One Senior Level winner
*1 Open Division Overall Winner will be chosen from the Junior and Senior Level Winners to perform with MYAC's Symphony Orchestra on February 23rd, 2020.
Junior & Senior Division Winners (4):

  • A cash award of $1000 plus an MYAC tuition scholarship (valued at $750) for 2020 Summer Music Camp programs OR the 2020 - 2021 large ensemble tuition.

Overall Winners (3):

  • Opportunity to perform with an MYAC Orchestra on February 23rd, 2020 at Northwestern's Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Evanston, IL.
  • Opportunity to perform on the prestigious From the Top radio program (Senior MYAC Orchestra Division Winner only).

Category Winners (20):

  • MYAC Tuition Scholarship (valued at $375) to be used for 2020 Summer Music Camp programs OR the 2020 - 2021 academic year large ensemble tuition.
  • The opportunity to perform at Ravinia's Bennett Gordon Hall in Highland Park on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

The deadline to register for the event is 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1st.
