Artist Fran Vail Exhibits Watercolors at YMCA Community Gallery
Public reception on December 13 will include a live watercolor demonstration.

The North Suburban YMCA will welcome esteemed painter and teacher Frances Vail as its featured artist for December 2015. Throughout the month, she will exhibit a variety of her watercolor works in the Y’s Community Gallery, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. The Y will host a public reception for her show on December 13 from 1:00 to 3:30pm, which will include a live watercolor demonstration by the artist.
A native of Highland Park, Fran Vail started drawing and painting at a young age and always aspired to be an artist. She earned her BFA from Syracuse University and then returned to Chicago to work in Fashion Advertising at Carson Pirie Scott. After living in Europe for seven years, she returned to the U.S. where she freelanced in advertising and also painted murals and architectural renderings for home owners, builders and architects. She has studied painting with Richard Halstead, Peggy Macnamara, and Phil Austin, among others. About 18 years ago, she began teaching watercolor, and now teaches watercolor, oil, pastel, and drawing at various venues and privately on the North Shore and Door County, Wisconsin. Her work is shown often at the North Shore Art League and at the Paint Box Gallery in Ephraim, Wisconsin.
The YMCA’s Community Gallery showcases the work of artists who live and work in the northern suburbs, with monthly exhibits that are free and open to the public. Most of the artwork is available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds benefiting visual arts education programs at the Y. For more information about the YMCA, visit www.nsymca.org.
