DHS, HPHS Students Selected As All-State Musicians
Eight students from Deerfield and Highland Park high schools were picked by the Illinois Music Education Association.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Eight students from Township High School District 113 schools were named all-state musicians by the Illinois Musical Education Associated. The four selectees from Highland Park High School and three from Deerfield High School have been invited to attend the 2019 Illinois Music Education Conference next month in Peoria.
Selectees from Highland Park High School include two flutists – Avra Friedman with the band and Lucy Robin with the orchestra – Elizabeth Nuteson on double bass, Liam Diethrich as a composer and Chloe Schneider as a future music educator. From Deerfield High School, trombonist Adam Aaronson, pianist and composer Annika Huprikar and violist Jiwon Mun were picked by the ILMEA.
The association's annual conference from Jan. 24 to Jan. 26 will feature more than 150 clinics and concerts for student musicians and music educators.

District 113 students were also honored in the results of the ILMEA's 2018-19 student composition contest.
DHS' Huprikar won third place in in the keyboard solo category for "Ballade in F minor," and Diethrich, of HPHS, tied for third place for in the category of solo to chamber ensemble for "Sea of Flames" and received an honorable mention for "Apocalypse" in the large ensemble instrumental category.

On Monday, Highland Park High School musicians performed at Bennett Gordon Hall at Ravinia Park. The concert featured students in HPHS' concert band, wind ensemble, wind symphony and jazz ensemble, which closed the show with performances of "In the Mood," "Ornithology," "Gingerbread Boy" and "4 on 6."
