Dr. Frank Phillips Named Director of the Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Rush University Medic

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Spine, Back and Neck Orthopedic Surgeon named Director of the Division of Spine Surgery.

Dr. Frank Phillips, Spine, Back and Neck Orthopedic Surgeon at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, has been named Director, Division of Spine Surgery for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Phillips adds this new responsibility to his current positions as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Director of the Section of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Rush University Medical Center.

A leader in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery, Dr. Phillips was one of the first in Chicago to begin using these procedures in the 1990s. He specializes in minimally invasive cervical and lumbar reconstructive surgery. He has had a distinguished career as an innovative spine surgeon and is on the cutting edge in the development of new techniques and approaches. He has authored more than 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts, received numerous awards for his research achievements as well as multiple extramural research grants. Dr. Phillips has served as the President of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS), has been Program Chair for Cervical Spine Research Society, SMISS and the International Society for Advanced Spine Surgery (ISASS) and is currently on the Board of Directors of ISASS and the International Society for the Study of Lumbar Spine.

Dr. Phillips succeeds Dr. Howard An who has held the position of Director of the Division of Spine Surgery for 14 years. Under his leadership, the Division has flourished, excelling in patient care, research and education. Dr. An continues his clinical spine practice, will remain the Rush University Medical Center Director of the Spine Surgery Fellowship and the Morton International Chair of Spine Surgery.
