Edgewood Students Approached by Strange Man: Cops

Highland Park police have increased patrols following Wednesday afternoon's incident.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - Police in Highland Park are investigating an after-school incident Wednesday in which three Edgewood Middle School students were approached by a man while walking home from school.

According to a community alert, the stranger - described as white, 6’1, 195 lbs., from 24-27 years old - approached the three students around 3 p.m. near Burton Avenue and Washington Place.

The suspect was wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants at the time of the incident and was driving a silver car. He had no physical contact with the students.

Extra police patrols have been added to the area.

“Families and children should not concentrate on the above description of the stranger or their vehicle to protect themselves,” police warn. “Strangers offering rides or asking for help from children can come in either sex, and any nationality or race. They may drive old or new cars, pickups , trucks or vans of any color.”
