Elect a District 112 Board That Will Serve the Entire Community

Service on the District 112 Board requires creativity, integrity, leadership, commitment, good judgment and a thick-skin

Elect a District 112 Board That Will Serve the Entire Community

With four seats on the NSSD 112 School Board up for election, we need School Board
members committed to the future success of 112 and the needs of all its
students.

When deciding for whom to vote, consider the capacity of the candidates to learn and
adapt to the challenges they will face over the next four years. Assess
the extent to which the candidates demonstrate an ability to care about
and take into account the needs of students of different abilities and of
students who do not have a voice. Ask yourself which candidates have the
commitment, courage and energy needed to put 112 on a firm footing for the
future. Identify the candidates who will ask tough questions, but will also
listen to advice and collaborate, when reaching a decision. The next four years
will require creativity, integrity, leadership, commitment, good judgment and a
thick-skin on the part of School Board members.

Please do not make this election about "taking back" something that belongs
to none of us, but is a legacy for future generations. We are all passionate
about our children and grandchildren, but effective service on the 112 Board
requires more than passion about our own. Facile or glib approaches catering to
a narrow audience do not necessarily translate into the ability to act in the
interests of the wider community. If a candidate’s program sounds too
good to be true, it probably is.

This is an important election. Take the time to read up, to listen and to think
seriously about what the candidates have to say. Go to one or more candidate
forums. Vote for candidates who are up to the job of serving on the 112 Board.
Today’s issues will pass and new challenges will emerge.

We are lucky to have more than four qualified candidates who have been intensely
involved in working for the future of 112. They have their own perspectives and
we may disagree about which candidates are more capable. But even if we vote
for different people, we all still should be working toward the same goal of
seeing our schools succeed in nourishing new generations of learners.
