As a District 112 school board member from 2009-2013, I came to know Bennett Lasko from his participation in SCFFFAC, a citizen’s advisory committee drafted to address the district’s growing financial and facilities concerns. This volunteer position represents hundreds of hours of work done on behalf of the district by Bennett and others—but it only one of the many reasons that Bennett is uniquely qualified to serve on the District 112 board. Bennett has not only gained invaluable community experience serving on SCFFFAC and related district advisory groups, he has a wealth of professional experience as well. As a business litigation attorney, Bennett has more than twenty years of experience advising boards of all types. He has accumulated insights and knowledge that can only come from years of learning how boards operate and observing what kinds of problems and issues boards commonly encounter. Perhaps even more importantly, as an attorney, he gives professional advice to boards, helping to resolve issues so they can continue to move forward.
In a particularly challenging time for our community, Bennett is seeking a position on the District 112 school board. He not only has a depth of district knowledge and history, he has a sophisticated understanding of what it takes to be an effective board member. I believe these qualities will allow Bennett to “hit the ground running”, working for all the citizens of our district. I have observed Bennett over the course of his time volunteering for our district. He is measured, thoughtful, and is often a calming voice in a contentious room. Equally as importantly, Bennett is committed to keeping an open mind. He is not tied to any particular agenda or special interest. Instead, he has the temperament, the experience and the intelligence required to build consensus.
