Endorsement Of Laura Saret: Letter

Saret is "a creative problem solver" with a "calm temperament," letter says.

Written and submitted by Gail Taxy.

My name is Gail Taxy, and I am writing this letter to endorse the candidacy of Laura Saret for Highland Park City Council.

Growing up in HP, attending Ravinia Elementary School, Edgewood, and Highland Park High School, and returning in 1982 to raise our family here, I care about everything that impacts our city. I had the privilege of serving as a trustee and President of the Board of Trustees of the HP Public Library. As part of Lake Cook Illinois Audubon, I have spent many days with other volunteers cleaning up the beaches so many of us enjoy. A half dozen issues have brought me to City Council Meetings; higher green standards for our city, progress and stability of real estate (commercial and residential) and educational success for all our students.

I met Laura at Ravinia Neighbor Association meetings, where I heard her provide reports, questions, and solutions; and, when there was a sudden vacancy for presidency, she stepped up to become co-president.

Laura’s qualifications for City Council are exemplary. Since retiring from Oakton Community College 5 years ago, Laura has a track record of HP community volunteer involvement including the Housing Commission, Board of Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH), Board of HP Volunteer Pool, co-President of Ravinia Neighbors Association, and student mentor for College Bound Opportunities.

Laura is the best choice to fill the Council seat vacated by Paul Frank. I have seen Laura’s leadership in action. Laura Saret would add the fiscal policy background that many of us don’t have. She has the calm temperament to deal with edgy issues that regularly come before the Council. She is a creative problem solver and transparent in her decision-making. She listens to everyone before making a recommendation. Laura is a “people person,” and no issue or problem is too small for her attention if it affects a neighbor.

I endorse Laura Saret without reservations. I hope you will vote for her, too!
