HIGHWOOD, Ill. - The Midwest Young Artists (MYA) Symphony Orchestra is set to participate in the 2012 Lang Lang International Music Summit this August. MYA students will work with talented young pianists from the Lang Lang Young Scholars program through a weeklong experience which will serve as a cultural and musical exchange for all involved. The summit will culminate in a grand performance for the public at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Chicago's Millennium Park on August 10th at 6:30pm. MYA is an award-winning non-profit music school known for its community outreach efforts and collaboration with other non-profits and charities.
Lang Lang is a world famous classical pianist, and at the age of 28 has already spent 10 years of his life giving back to the global community of young musicians. The vision of his foundation includes making classical music accessible to children and providing the best educational opportunities in the world to hopeful young musicians, many of whom would never have had such access.
Lang Lang has lent his efforts to charitable activities as diverse as convening 100 pianists in concert, playing music for sick children in hospitals, delivering classical music recitals in underserved and remote communities, donating his musical talents to benefit concerts, and personally mentoring rising young talented pianists. In the process, Lang Lang has inspired young people to believe that music can make life better. Midwest Young Artists shares Lang Lang’s passion for education and belief that music is a powerful force for good in the world.
