CHICAGO – February 6, 2012 – Spex, Chicago’s ‘Best Eyewear Store’* and premier destination for luxury eyewear and sunwear, holds their next “Art+Vision” event with student works from the children at Highland Park Montessori. The opening reception is on Friday, March 2 from 6-8 pm, at 1819 St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park, IL, 60035; 847 266 6400. The work will be on view through April 13, 2012. Refreshments and appetizers will be served. A trunk show featuring Lafont eyewear and sunwear collection will be previewed during the reception.

“LAFONT is the eyewear that has evolved into an international brand synonymous with discreet luxury; their fans have a deep appreciation for craftsmanship,” says store manager Yana Litvinova. “There’s an element of the French lifestyle that runs throughout this family-owned eyewear collection; the monitoring of the brand was established over 80-years ago in order to maintain integrity and quality. Every frame is handcrafted from the very finest materials; it’s their commitment to quality – and in some styles down to a carefully placed crystal, that continually surpasses other collections.” The entire Lafont eyewear and sunwear collection will be on view. This is a trunk show that will bring a bit of Rive Gauche to Highland Park!

Spex invites Kat Freeman, art instructor at Highland Park Montessori, to showcase the work of her 5- and 6- year old students once again. Kat leads the Art Discovery experience as part of Highland Park Montessori Enrichment programs; her approach focuses on creative process, self-expression and aesthetic awareness rather than just a finished product. Art with this open-ended approach develops an appreciation for the individuality of self – and others, as the child discovers there is more than one way to do something. The opening reception will showcase luminous and surprisingly sophisticated canvases where children created magic with humble materials like glue, aluminum foil, pencil and ink. The glowing results belie the usual expectations of the materials.
