Rotary of Highland Park/Highwood Gift to Family Service

Community members, Rotary members, Family Service staff, community leaders, Nuestro Center donors and more, turned out on October 15 to honor the Rotary Club of Highland Park/Highwood’s award of $10,000 to Family Service for new flooring, new security system, and new outdoor security lighting for the Family Service Nuestro Center. Rotary President Paul Munk, an immigrant himself, praised the work of Family Service and the Nuestro Center in “helping immigrants in the community to get a better education so that they can pursue the American dream.” Family Service Executive Director Paul Dean thanked the Rotary Club for their generous grant, which enabled Family Service to “greatly enhance the quality of services provided at Nuestro Center and create a safer, more secure environment in which our children can learn, grow, and prosper.” Paul Munk pointed out that “Nuestro Center students have exceeded the Illinois Learning Standard for each of the past five years by surpassing the 90% requirement that students achieve at least a “C” in all of their major subjects. This is a particularly remarkable achievement while the students and their families face difficulties of poverty, low-wage jobs, balancing work/family demands and much more.”
