Former Mayor Belsky Wants Park Ave. Beach Kept Intact

Highland Park residents should have "unfettered access" to enjoy lakefront.

The Park Avenue Beach should Remain Intact

I am really puzzled by the City of Highland Park’s desire to fence in the water plant and reconfigure the road leading to the beach. Highland Park is a “lakefront community” and its residents should have unfettered access and enjoyment of this unrivaled natural feature.
The water plant has been at this location for decades upon decades. To my knowledge there has never been any sort of security breach or risk. If there is one the Mayor and Council should inform the public as that is their obligation, especially when it relates to public safety. To my knowledge they have not shared this with the task force they established for input.
There are also security alternatives to fencing and road closures such as remote cameras. I urge the Council to do the right thing and keep Park Avenue Beach intact.
