Four Drunk Driving Arrests In One Weekend: Highland Park Crime

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following is a record of arrests and incidents reported to police provided by the Highland Park Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt, and readers are reminded that criminal charges, which can be dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO STATE SUPPORTED PROPERTY

Yusuf A. Akyol, 41, of the 500 block of Onwentsia Avenue, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to state supported property after police responded to a complaint in the 2000 block of Sheridan Road at 2:36 p.m. on June 7. Akyol was released on a personal recognizance bond with a July 5 court date in Waukegan.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Victor Mendez-Sanchez, 31, of the 300 block of Walker Avenue, Highland Park was arrested and charged with domestic battery after police responded to a complaint in his block of residence at 1:45 a.m. on June 10. He was transported to bond court in Waukegan.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Charles L. Ash, 56, of the 100 block of Lincoln Street in Glenview, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after police responded to a complaint in the 400 block of Roger Williams Avenue at 11:53 p.m. on June 10. Ash was released on bond with a court date of July 7 in Waukegan.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Carlos Juan Roman, 31, of the 5000 block of West Ogden in Cicero, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and speeding more than 35 mph over the limit in a construction zone after police conducted a stop in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road at 2:31 a.m. on June 11. He was released on bond with a court date of July 21 in Waukegan.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Assaf Yosef Shtraischler, 37, of the 1000 block of Auburn Avenue was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, failure to use turn signal and possession of cannabis after police conducted a stop in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road shortly before 4 a.m. on June 11. He was was released on a personal recognizance bond with a July 14 court date in Waukegan.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Josue Hernandez, 33, of the 3800 block of East Edgerton Avenue, Cudahy, Wisconsin was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, no valid driver’s license, illegal transportation of alcohol and endangering the life of a child after police conducted a stop in the 3300 block of Skokie Valley Road at 12:53 a.m. on June 12. He was released on a personal recognizance bond with a July 14 court date in Waukegan.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 32-year old Waukegan man was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle after police responded to a traffic accident in the 2800 block of Skokie Valley Road at 8:43 a.m. on June 5. He was released with a July 26 court date in Park City.

NO VALID LICENSE

A 32-year-old Omaha, Nebraska man was arrested and charged with no valid driver’s license after police responded to a traffic accident in the 2800 block of Skokie Valley Road at 9:20 a.m. on June 5. He has a court date of July 26 in Park City.

NO VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE

A 29-year-old Waukegan man was arrested and charged with no valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration and obstructing identification after police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Old Elm Road at 1:48 a.m. on June 11. He has a court date set for July 12 in Park City.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Someone damaged a trailer located at a residence in the 2600 block of Waukegan Avenue, police were told. The incident is believed to have taken place between approximately 8 p.m. on June 3 and approximately 2:15 p.m. on June 5.

BATTERY

On June 10, a woman placed their hands upon another person and stole their belongings at a business located in the 200 block of St. Johns Avenue, police were told around 9:45 p.m. that night.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Sometime between about 4:30 p.m. on June 9 and 12:30 p.m. June 11, someone damaged a door in a residential complex in the 2000 block of St. Johns Avenue, police were told

RETAIL THEFT

A 73-year-old woman, of the 2700 block of Mavor Lane, was cited administratively for retail theft after removing items from a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road past all points of purchase.
