Highland Park 4th of July Parade to include World War II Veteran

Keep a look out for Harold Lederman on the Freedom Home Care float!

The Independence Day Parade hosted by the City and Park District will be held on July 4 at 10am. It is also the celebration of Highland Park's 150th Anniversary is full of people who have rich and deep roots in the area. Freedom Home Care will have a float in the Highland Park 4th of July parade and will be honoring those seniors with roots in Highland Park.

On their float will be 95 year old Highland Parker Harold Lederman, a veteran of the 104th infantry from 1943-1946, whose tours took him from everywhere from England to Germany. He was born on November 13th of 1924 in Humboldt Park Chicago. Throughout all of this Lederman never thought he would need a caretaker but now at almost 95, he needs a little assistance. Brunck still drives and you can still find him out on the waters with his passion for boating or perfecting his stroke on the golf courses.

Lederman is also a family man with two amazing children and just saw his grandchildren graduate from excellent schools such as the University of Illinois and Mizzou. Lederman’s great-grandchildren are still working their way through the excellent school systems of Highland Park. Despite all of his travels around the world, Lederman and his family love Highland Park through and through.

The parade route starts at the intersection of Laurel Avenue and St. Johns Avenue, proceeding on St. Johns to Elm Place, west on Elm Place, immediate south on First Street, west along Central Avenue, ending at Sunset Woods Park.
