Highland Park Accused Of Battering Cop During Arrest: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
RECORD THEFT
Someone stole two boxes of vinyl records valued at about $3,000 from a garage in the 700 block of Lorraine Circuit at some point prior to the evening of Jan. 26.
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 2600 block of Bentley Road reported on Jan. 29 that someone had broken a garage pane window, damaged a front door and ransacked a walk-in closet, but it was not known at the time of the report what, if anything, was taken from inside.

GAS THEFT
A female motorist pumped up an unspecified amount of gas from the Thornton's gas station, 55 Skokie Valley Road, around 4 p.m. on Jan. 31 and left without paying.

- Shortly before noon on Jan. 24, a man wearing a black hat, black coat, red pants, black shoes and a black ski mask stole vitamins, candy and a white box containing unidentified merchandise from the CVS at 1539 Clavey Road and left the scene in a gray 2020 Toyota Corolla.
- Staff at the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, reported on Feb. 1 that a man wearing a black puffy coat and white shoes stole two Fitbit units, one pair of shoes, Levi's clothing, detergent, a box of diapers and hand towels into a shopping car and left without paying around 9 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- Target staff reported on Feb. 1 that a man in a black jacket and black jeans stole a Bose speaker worth $280 from the electronics section on Jan. 23, leaving the scene in a dark-colored SUV.
- On Feb. 4, staff at the Target reported that a female shoplifter had stolen $1,115 worth of various types of over-the-counter medications around 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 21.
THEFTS FROM VEHICLE
- At some point between 5 p.m. Jan. 26 and 7 a.m. Jan. 27, someone stole a pair of catalytic converters from a box truck while it was parked behind a locked fence in a parking lot in the 3100 block of Skokie Valley Road for a loss of $1,400.
- At 1:51 p.m. on Jan. 31, someone stole a catalytic converter worth $1,400 from a 2015 Toyota Prius parked in a lot in the 1200 block of Lake Cook Road. Male thieves wearing black ski masks were spotted leaving the scene in a black Infiniti sports car with a temporary license plate and tinted windows.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone struck the windshield of a car parked in the 400 block of Bloom Street multiple times on or before the afternoon of Feb. 2, causing an unspecified amount of damage.
- A rear window of a Jeep Wrangler parked in the 1300 block of St. Johns Avenue was found smashed on the evening of Feb. 4, with pieces of broken bottles found at the end of the driveway.
- Two lock boxes at the UHaul, 1590 Deerfield Road, were damaged between 6 p.m. Feb. 5 and 7 a.m. Feb. 6.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Zackery M. Joiner, 23, of the 1200 block of Ridgewood Drive, Highland Park, was arrested around 8 a.m. on Feb. 5 and charged with aggravated battery to police, resisting arrest and domestic battery after police were called to his home for a report of a fight.
Daniel Zajkowski, 29, of the 4700 block of N. Sayre Avenue, Harwood Heights, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Central Avenue.
Davis S. Usher, 36, of the 4100 block of Continental Drive, Waukegan, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 6 on an active arrest warrant from another state after police got a call about a car parked in the lot of the Shell gas station, 10 Skokie Valley Road. Usher also picked up new charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Andrew D. Mallory, 30, of the 1000 block of Lenox Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested around 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 6 and charged with criminal damage to property after police were called to a report of a broken glass doors at the central train station at 1700 St. Johns Ave.
