Highland Park Country Club Golf Course Likely To Be Repurposed

"Nothing would change but the absence of golf shoes," board president says.

The Park District of Highland Park has made it known a number of plans exist where the golf course would be converted to walking trails, according to the Highland Park News.

“Given the dip in the golf industry and the number of private golf courses currently located in Highland Park, operating two public golf courses is fiscally imprudent,” consultant Scott Freres has said.

“If people spend the time looking at the (plans), it is clear that any proposal is to effectively turn this from a golf course to a walking course,” said Scott Meyers, president of the park board. “From the community’s perspective, nothing would change but the absence of golf shoes.”

Residents from the Legacy Club attended a recent meeting to object to any plan for the course other than golf, many arguing their property values would decrease if there were no more views of the golf course.
