Highland Park–Highwood Legal Aid Clinic Expands, Attorney Marykay Foy joins as Director of Domestic Violence Law Practice

Maykay Foy joins the Highland Park Highwood Legal Aid Clinic as the Director of Domestic Violence Law Practice

Highland Park, IL (May 22, 2017) – The Highland Park – Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) is pleased to announce the expansion of the Clinic’s Domestic Violence practice with the addition of Marykay Foy as the Director. The expansion is based on the demand for assistance and afforded by a generous grant donation from the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park (HFHP) and Allstate.

Foy comes to the Clinic after serving as a prosecutor for 19 years in the State's Attorney Office of Lake County. During the last five years of her tenure, she was assigned to the Felony Domestic Violence Division. She is the Past President of the Jefferson Inn, an American Inns of Court (AIC), where she continues to serve on the Board of Directors. In addition, she was also the President of the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County, where she continues to serve on the Board. Previously, Foy is an active member of the Lake County Bar Association. She has also served on the Executive Board of A Safe Place as Secretary and Vice-President.

Foy attended Loyola University, Chicago School of Law, interning at the Cook County Public Defender's Office, the U.S. Federal Prosecutor's Office and the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Prior to that time, she worked for 20 years in the insurance industry working in commercial and professional liability insurance markets after graduating from Marquette University.

“Marykay is a critical addition to our team as we strive to provide a Domestic Violence program that will assist victims of domestic violence with a full range of services that can address the ever-growing needs of victims and work to prevent violence even if it has not occurred yet,” said Susan Shulman, Executive Director of the Clinic. “She brings expertise, depth of knowledge, relationships with our partner agencies, and a passion for the cause that will serve our clients and communities well.”

Foy stated, “The Clinic does an incredible job reaching out and serving those in need of pro bono legal services who live and work in Highland Park and Highwood.” She continued, “It is my goal to assure domestic violence victims and their families are safe and protected.”
