Highland Park – Highwood Legal Aid Clinic Providing DACA Renewal Assistance

Highland Park, IL (September 11, 2017) – The Highland Park – Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) is providing free legal assistance to any and all individuals, regardless of where they live or work who are in need of assistance in renewing their DACA application.

To be eligible for renewal, current DACA must expire September 5, 2017 – March 5, 2018. Applications for DACA Renewal must be accepted by USCIS on October 5, 2017, with no exceptions to the deadline. It is imperative to renew if an individual applicant falls within these dates.

DACA is a federal program that provides employment authorization and protection from deportation to undocumented immigrant individuals (often referred to as Dreamers) who entered the United States before they turned 16 and meet several qualifying criteria. It has benefitted nearly 800,000 undocumented youth since it began in 2012. President Donald Trump recently made an executive decision to terminate DACA in six months unless Congress passes legislation to enact DACA into law.
