Highland Park, IL – April 12, 2017 - The Highland Park- Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) is the recipient of a generous grant donation from the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park (HFHP). This grant will benefit the health of victims of Domestic Violence who live or work in Highland Park or Highwood. Domestic Violence has a dramatic impact on a victim’s health. Research shows that access to legal services substantially reduces domestic violence. The Clinic works closely with partner agencies to provide a full range of services that address the needs of domestic violence victims, and that can prevent violence for those who live or work in Highland Park and Highwood.
“The Clinic is honored and grateful to receive the generous grant funding from the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park,” stated Executive Director Susan Shulman. “Domestic violence is a critical health care issue in our community. Too many in our communities know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse, but they are not aware of the signs, service available or how to help. This particular grant will allow the Clinic to provide the high level of bilingual expertise and competence required of domestic violence practitioners to address the complexity of physical and mental healthcare issues.”
James Styer, HFHP Board Chair stated “We are pleased to assist our vulnerable neighbors by helping to improve access to critical public health services. The Clinic reaches out, and assures those who live or work here are safe and cared for, both now and in the future.”
