HPHS is Best in State at Chess

State tournament shows Giants have the best high school chess players, including the top individual performer.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - When it comes to chess, nobody can top Highland Park High School.

HPHS won the team champion title at the Illinois High School Individual and Medley Championship over the Feb. 27 weekend at Maine South High School, according to a District 113 news release. Zach Warsh secured the team title with his victory.

In addition, HPHS’s Jonathan Hrach won the Individual Champion title with a perfect 5.0 score.

HPHS was best out of a total of eight teams that competed for the state title.
