Info Meeting in Time for Obamacare Enrollment

Moraine Township and Family Service are once again partnering with GetCoveredIllinois and Enroll Lake County to assist residents in understanding options obtaining affordable health insurance, and invite the community to an informational meeting Nov. 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Highland Park High School.

Keynote speaker, Alicia Siani of EverThrive Illinois will help residents understand options for enrolling or re-enrolling for health insurance during open enrollment Nov. 15 through Feb. 15, 2015.

Topics will include new plans on the Marketplace, improved 2015 coverage, Medicaid expansion and changes, and penalties for not having health insurance.

Both Moraine Township and Family Service will again offer Certified Navigators at no charge to work one-on-one with residents.

Navigators have completed 40-50 hours of training and passed a criminal background check, and can help residents understand and compare coverage and costs of the various plans and also help ensure that enrollees receive the premium subsidies and cost-sharing reductions they may be income-qualified to receive.

Residents who are currently enrolled in health insurance plans through the Marketplace have two options. They may re-enroll in their existing plan for another year, or they can select a different plan for 2015.

There will be new plans available through the Marketplace for 2015 that were not available last year.

Individuals and families who did not have health insurance for all or part of 2014 may be subject to a tax penalty when filing their 2014 federal tax return, and penalties increase in 2015.
