Event includes a reception, raffle and night at the movies

Highland Park, IL – March 20, 2017 - The Highland Park- Highwood Legal Aid Clinic (the Clinic) will celebrate its 2nd anniversary on Thursday, May 11, 2017 with “A Night at the Movies.” Business owners, civic leaders and Clinic supporters will come together at Beelow’s Restaurant at 1850 Second Street, Highland Park for a reception followed by a Landmark Renaissance Place Cinema screening of ‘Don’t Tell Anyone,’ a Peabody Award-winning documentary film directed by Mikeala Shwer focusing on immigrant activist Angy Rivera as she shares her parallel journey of coming out of the shadows as undocumented and a survivor of domestic abuse. A short discussion will follow the screening. Proceeds from the event and raffle will support the Clinic and access to justice for those who live or work in Highland Park and Highwood.

“Since its inception, the Clinic has helped over 250 people who work or live in Highland Park and Highwood stay in their homes, gain legal immigration status or escape abusive relationships,” stated Executive Director Susan Shulman. “We could not do this important work in these, our core areas of focus without the incredible support from the local and greater community.”

Mayor Nancy Rotering, Founder and Honorary Chair of the Clinic said, “We are pleased to celebrate another year of assisting our vulnerable neighbors by improving access to justice. The Clinic reaches out into the community, and assures those who live or work here that we are one community, today and in the future.”
