​Josephine Hartenstein Hirsch Sloan, age 99

Josephine Hartenstein Hirsch Sloan, age 99, Died peacefully in her home in Highland Park on July 6, 2024. Mom or Nana Jo, as she was lovingly referred to by her family, was known for her warmth and zest for life. Jo lived her life by her motto, “life was to celebrate to the fullest!” She was an avid bridge player, threw amazing parties, and had a passion for tennis. Josephine was born in West Rodgers Park Chicago, on March 16, 1925. She graduated from Senn High School in 1942 and Northwestern University in 1945. Jo became a High School Spanish teacher after studying at the University of Mexico in Mexico City during her time at Northwestern. Later, she started a Party Planning business called North Shore Party Guild. Jo lived in Highland Park for 73 years with her two wonderful husbands who preceeded her in death, Richard R Hirsch and Bernard Sloan. She is survived by her Children Gary (Millie) Hirsch and Ellen (William) Fiely. Grandchildren Randall (Joanna) Hirsch, Bill (Rachel) Fiely, David (Haley) Hirsch, Robby Fiely, Ricky Hirsch and Matt Fiely. Great Grandchildren Henry Fiely, Sadie Fiely, Elias Hayman, Dylan Hayman, and Avery Hirsch. Stepchildren Adina (Stephen) Schoenberger, Avie Sloan, Rananah (Richard) Lubovitch. Step Grandchildren Danielle (Marc) Sirinsky, Lindsay (David) Kanter, Matt (Lori) Sloan, Brooke (Myles) Grossblatt, and Rose Lubovitch. Nieces Gail (Bill) Neiman, Laurie Winter, Nephew Ronald Hirsch.
