King Celebration Expected to Draw Hundreds to Highland Park

Day of Service events to be held January 19 at Recreation Center.

The sixth annual Martin Luther King Day of Service in Highland Park will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 19 at the Recreation Center of Highland Park, and organizers are once again expecting a large crowd.

In addition, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will speak of his experience as a student of King’s and the Jesse White Tumbling Team will perform.

The Highland Park News reports organizers, including Cheryl Levi, the event’s founder, are expecting more than 1,300 to participate in helping families sort food and packaging dry soup ingredients and recipes for the Moraine Township Food Pantry and work on service projects such as assembling toiletries for a homeless shelter and the USO at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
