Navy Jazz "Commodores" to Perform at Highland Park High School
U.S. Navy Band premier jazz ensemble, the Commodores, to perform free concert at Highland Park High School on Friday, October 30, 2015, 7pm.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL – The U.S. Navy Band’s premier jazz ensemble, the “Commodores,” will appear in concert at Highland Park High School on Friday, October 30, 2015, at 7:00 PM. Hosted by Highland Park High School Bands, this special evening of America’s truly original jazz and popular music is sure to pack the house. Concert admission is free of charge, but attendance is limited and requires a ticket at entry.
A specialty unit of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., the Commodores feature 18 of the Navy’s top jazz and big band musicians. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Philip Burlin, the group’s performances are high-energy affairs that not only pay tribute to jazz and big band classics, but also feature original compositions by members of the group.
“We are truly honored to host this highly accomplished and distinguished ensemble for the community,” says Joshua Chodoroff, Director of Bands at Highland Park High School.

Since their founding in 1969, the Commodores have become one of the most acclaimed jazz ensembles in the country. Many jazz legends have appeared with the group, including Ray Charles, Louie Bellson, Terry Gibbs, Bruce Johnstone, Bob Mintzer, James Moody, Clark Terry and Eugene “Snooky” Young. In addition, they have opened for the Beach Boys and appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning, America.” They are highly sought after by the nation’s foremost jazz festivals and educational conferences.
The Highland Park High School band program is committed to fostering the growth of its students as musicians and as people, achieving the highest standard of performance, and supporting the spirit and tradition of the school and its community. The school’s band program includes three classical wind ensembles, a jazz ensemble, a marching band, theater pit ensembles, and numerous other student ensembles organized by the students themselves.
