No More Golf At Highland Park Country Club? Joint Meeting Set For October

The city-owned, money-losing golf course is operated by the park district, which has proposed converting it to open space.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A plan by the Park District of Highland Park to stop golf operations at the city-owned Highland Park Country Club will be the subject of a joint meeting between council members and park officials scheduled for the first week of October. Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering called for the meeting as the city's official response to the Park District of Highland Park's letter last month notifying the City Council of the district's intention to shut down the golf course and convert it to a nature park, Daily North Shore reported.

"We want to have a serious discussion about the issues surrounding the golf course and senior-related issues," Rotering said, according to the website. "We want to have it out in the open." She encouraged all interested members of the public to participate in the upcoming discussions.

During the public comment period during an Aug. 28 city council meeting, some Highland Park residents raised questions about the financial history of the park district's accounting and suggested hiring an independent firm to examine the assets of both city-owned golf courses, the Highland Park Country Club and the Sunset Valley Country Club.
