Shirley Jean Rion, 89, from Waukegan/Glencoe and Wheeling Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, April 5th. Loving daughter of George Crego and Fannie Augustine. Loving mother to Harvey (David) and Rachel Marie . Cherished grandmother to Christina and Miguel Melgar. Dear sister to Joyce Witt, John Augustine and Marsha DeRue. A loving wife of 21 years to Harvey Rion. A fond aunt to many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a bibliophile, a Sophist, a Gnostic, and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge in any place that she could find it. She was also a true student of spirituality and spent her life searching for genuine answers of the Divine; reading everything from Nostradamus, to Edgar Cayce, Linda Goodman, the Books of Enoch, Chinese Numerology, Jewish Kabbalah, the Tibetan Book of the Dead and of course, every episode of Ancient Aliens. She went back to school in her 40’s and got a Master’s Degree in Gerontology from Roosevelt University. She taught many about the Taurean virtues of security and stability, the necessity of personal character, and the importance of being a lifelong learner (no matter how many degrees you earn or how long it takes you to earn them).
