Featured Obituary:

Richard entered into his eternal life on August 20, 2021.Richard shared 66 years of love and happiness with his college sweetheart Connie Felten (Baldrini), and resided in Deerfield, Illinois for 63 years.

“Richie” began his P.E. high school teaching and coaching career at Tremont High School, Tremont Illinois. A few years later, he was hired by Highland Park High School to teach and coach football. He opened Deerfield High School, and became Athletic Director for the school. From Deerfield, he finished his teaching and coaching career at New Tier High School, and was the Physical Education Chairman for that department. Through his unique teaching and coaching style, Richie influenced many young adults, and he always put his students first.

Richard received many awards and honors during his lifetime. He was a 4-sport star who was MVP as a football halfback both at Illinois State University, and in the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1949.In 1973, he was inducted into Illinois State University’s Athletic Hall of Fame and he is also in the “Who’s Who” of Collegiate Students. n 1994, Richard was inducted into the Highwood Hall of Fame in his hometown, Highwood, Illinois.

Richard is a WWII Veteran and served in the First Air Marine Corp Division. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater, and was in the Philippines for most of his tour. One of his fondest memories during that terrible time, was of his pet monkey, “Chico”, who he got from a native by trading one of his tee shirts!
