Featured obituary:
Francis R. Bailey, 94, of Winnetka, passed away at home on July 25, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Joan Lambert Bailey, dear father to Rob (Leah Seidenfeld Bailey), Joanne Reilly (James); loving grandfather to Samantha and Alexandra Bailey.
Francis was a true member of “The Greatest Generation.” Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised by a single mother, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He served in the South Pacific as a B52 tail gunner during World War II.
He retired to Florida after 30 years with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a movement director.
Francis embraced technology and was an avid HAM Radio operator and volunteered those services at many Chicago events including the Chicago Marathon. He served as a board member of both Honor Flight Chicago and Pillars of Honor, organizations that continue to honor our veterans for their service.
One of his greatest memories, was the day he was honored at Wrigley Field in 2017 thanking him for his service.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Semper Fi! Donations in Francis' memory may be made to Honor Flight Chicago.
