Featured Obituary:
Dennis Charles Grygotis, M.D. of Evanston, IL passed away on June 26, 2020 of pancreatic cancer. He was born February 18, 1942 to Helen Budrecki Grygotis and Edward Grygotis.
Raised in Union, New Jersey, he graduated from Rutgers University and then from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1970. He interned at Children’s Memorial Hospital, and then returned to the University of Chicago for his residency in adult psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.
He loved being a physician and practiced both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry in Chicago and then in Evanston and Northfield. Throughout his career, he supervised and mentored fellows in child and adolescent psychiatry, both through the University of Chicago and Northwestern University.
Dennis cared deeply about people, creating communities and building connections. Because his and his wife’s families were located on opposite coasts, together they created a “Chicago family” to provide love and support locally. He also helped to create a professional study group and a men’s book group, again, to help people make deep and supportive connections. One of his greatest pleasures, and the legacy of his career, was the relationships with and the impact he had on his patients. To the many individuals out there, our love and thoughts are with you.
Most of all, Dennis loved being a husband, a father and a grandfather. During the last ten years of his life, he devoted Fridays to the care of his grandchildren and felt deeply blessed and grateful that he was able to do so. He did create the family that he always wanted.Read more from Donnellan Family Funeral Home »
