Featured Obituary:

Derek E Taylor, 79, loving and devoted father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in Lake Forest, IL on November 18, 2020.

Raised by his “granny” in the slums of Glasgow, Derek always had a deep understanding of core values, family, love, and hard work. He truly was a self-made man and had knowledge reaching far beyond his education. He was a voracious reader and sought to learn at every opportunity. He had an incredible vault of information of things on a world-wide level, including history, culture, government, geography, religion, sports, political figures, sports legends, and languages. He would often astonish you with a piece of trivia and shared it in such a humble way, never boastful.

Derek was a Registered Nurse at Highland Park Hospital in the Emergency Room for over 30 years. Derek was always calm in a crisis, diligent and steadfast in his care of his patients, yet lighthearted and comical when the situation allowed. He was a welcome voice on the radio to the police and fire departments, a calming face to his patients and co-workers. He was a dedicated nurse, providing top-notch care and laughs with his story telling. He will be remembered by so many as a practical joker, always finding unique opportunities to make them laugh with his impish antics.

Derek was the life of the party, always charming and charismatic, yet fiercely private. Derek was a dedicated, caring, and loyal friend. His generosity to his family and friends knew no bounds. He was well known for his love of music, singing, and playing the guitar. He had an incredible sense of humor and wit, and always had a joke to tell. He captivated so many with his story-telling and clever anecdotes.

Above all, he was a devoted father and grandfather. His daughter, Corrie, often only known by many as “Beastie” or “The Beast” was always his priority. His two grandchildren, Isla & Ian brought new love and laughter into his life.

Derek came to America in 1973, yet his heart never left Scotland. Even after 47 years, he could be quoted as saying “I’m just on holiday”.
