North Suburban Synagogue Beth El Celebrates Three Milestones
Beth El celebrates 70th anniversary, honors Rabbi & Bryna Kurtz and celebrates 70th anniversary of state of Israel

In honor of Rabbi Vernon and Bryna Kurtz and North Suburban Synagogue Beth El’s 70th anniversary and in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of state of Israel, the synagogue will be marking these important milestones with a community-wide celebration. The entire weekend of November 2 – 4 will be devoted to the event, beginning with Kabbalat Shabbat dinner on Friday, November 2, a special Kiddush luncheon on Saturday and the gala dinner on Sunday, November 4. Dinner chairs include Wendy & Steve Abrams, Pearl & Joel Kagan and Jenna & David Smiley.
”The Gala will honor Rabbi Vernon and Bryna Kurtz, in recognition of the profound impact their 30+ years of service to Beth El has had on the vibrancy of our congregation and our shul’s strength and prosperity,” said Pearl Kagan, one of the co-chairs. Pearl continued, “In celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, we will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of Beth El and the State of Israel.”
As a part of the event, Beth El historian Mort Steinberg has created a new book, “Tradition by the Lake: A Historical Outline of North Suburban Synagogue Beth El,” which will be distributed at the dinner. “The book was written so that the efforts and dedications of the founders would not be lost,” said Steinberg. “Future generations will come to understand what it took to create this institution and their works will live on,” he concluded. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase after the event.
