Private Conference Held for 1 Charged with Murder

Attorney for Philip Vatamaniuc meets with prosecutors to see if murder trial could be avoided.

Philip Vatamaniuc, one of three men charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2013 shooting death of 20-year-old Highland Park resident Colin Nutter, may avoid a murder trial.

A private conference was held last week between Patrick Quilty, Vatamaniuc’s new defense attorney, prosecutors and Lake County Circuit Court Judge Victorial Rossetti, the Winnetka Talk reported.

The issue is expected to be addressed at Vatamaniuc’s next court appearance, which is scheduled for January 16, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Reginald Mathews.
