An attorney for Xin Zeng said her intention was always to keep the boy.

MORTON GROVE, IL - Xin Zeng, the woman arrested in early December for allegedly tying her newborn in a plastic bag and placing him under a set of towels before authorities arrived and saved him, wants to keep the baby.
Zeng, 21, of China who was in the United States on a visa while attending Loyola University, appeared in court Monday to plead not guilty to charges of attempted murder in connection with the Dec. 7 incident at the Morton Grove home in which she was living with her brother according to the Chicago Tribune.

Her brother called authorities that day and informed them Zeng may have given birth. Although Zeng would not tell them where the baby was, authorities found him within minutes and were able to save him. He is now in the custody of the Illinois Department of Family and Child Services and is in good condition.
Zeng’s lawyer, James Schapiro said in court his client always intended to keep the baby, who was born premature.
“She did not intend to kill this baby,” Shapiro said. “She still wants the baby.”
