Sadie McGrady Author to Make Campaign Stop in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, IL (OCTOBER 29, 2016) – Popular children’s book author of Sadie McGrady Runs for President is making a campaign stop in Highland Park at Beanstalk Toyland & Bookstore (654 Central Avenue) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th. Empowering today’s girls to become tomorrow’s leaders, Mary Parry will be reading and signing copies of her election picture book and encouraging young girls to explore becoming candidates and leaders.

Kids will also hear City of Highland Park Councilman, Alyssa Knobel, discuss the importance for girls to get involved in our community, and will have the opportunity to put democracy into action as they taste and vote for their favorite treats. Rumor also has it Peyton the guinea pig, another popular character featured in the book, may make a surprise appearance as well.

"Sadie McGrady motivates the next generation of strong, fierce, intelligent voters and advocates to step up and run for office,” says Knobel. “By educating young girls about the importance of democratic process and the skills needed to lead, we give them a running start to achieve future goals. We are so fortunate to have author Mary Parry joining us just before this historic election."

Sadie McGrady Runs for President is about a young girl who imagines her own campaign for President of the United States. Sadie shows readers the fun side of campaign life, making buttons and yard signs and marching in parades, and she also overcomes challenges along the way, like facing her opponent in a debate and being interviewed by the media. The book celebrates leadership traits like courage and confidence, perseverance and teamwork. By her example, Sadie encourages readers to become strong and effective leaders.

Sadie McGrady Runs for President is Mary Parry's children's picture book debut, encouraging young girls to explore becoming candidates and leaders (www.maryparry.com). Inspired by her work on presidential campaigns and her own daughter's run for class president, Mary created Sadie to help young readers experience the fun and excitement of a presidential campaign through the eyes of a confident and courageous peer. She hopes to inspire more girls to run for office.

Mary has dedicated her career to advocating for women and girls. She served in the role of advocacy director for a statewide organization, working to engage more women in the political process. She most recently directed development and communications for an organization serving women and families. She is a published writer with a passion for including more women in the world of politics and leadership. Mary and her family live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with their two mischievous mutts.
