Sunset Woods Park Vision Walk Offers Details About Master Plan

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — More than a year after the Highland Park Park District approved a design plan to renovate the playground area at Sunset Woods Park, city officials will host a vision walk this weekend that will provide residents with details of the master plan moving forward for the site.

The vision walk will take place from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday. The event will allow residents to walk around the park and to learn more about the proposed master plan for Sunset Park. A map for the self-guided walking tour will be provided that will detail what areas of the park and playground area are being designated for improvements, officials said.

Park District staff will also be on-site to answer questions about the park's master plan. The park is located at 1801 Sunset Road in Highland Park.

The event comes after the Board of Commissioners approved the site plan in July 2020. As part of the plan, improvements to the park’s Rocket Ship playground area and Titanic Tides tot lot location on the western side of the park facility.

Park District officials are committed to taking care of the park properties and construction of the playground area and tot lot began last month.

The Park Board took advantage of playground design services to develop a site master plan for the entire park, according to the park district website. This plan will ensure that the playground renovation fits into a modern vision of Sunset Woods Park for the whole community to enjoy.

The site master plan that will be discussed as part of Saturday’s vision walk was a recommendation in the Park District’s GreenPrint 2024 Comprehensive Plan and will be considered for future years.
