Support Brad Schneider for Congress

A compelling case for bringing Brad back to Congress

Dear Friends and Neighbors in the Tenth:

We need Brad Schneider back in Congress. Brad has an ability to fight articulately and with passion for issues and has demonstrated his independence and thoughtful approach.

On Social Security, for example, he knows we need reforms, but does not support privatization or increasing the retirement age like his opponent. Instead, he favors expanding the cap on affected incomes for those who pay into the system so millionaires are paying the same rate on all of their income.

On gun safety, he is vigorous advocate, and wants reasonable and strong regulations like banning assault weapons, closing the gun show loophole, expanding background checks and preventing those on the no fly list from being able to purchase guns, and he will not relent until we get a vote on the floor of the House which his opponent has failed to support.

On choice and women’s rights and equal pay, he is staunch advocate and will always defend Planned Parenthood and the right to choose for all women, and unlike his opponent, does not support the Hyde amendment which impedes those who are in financial straits from being able to get procedures they cannot afford.

On Obamacare, he supports keeping it in place and fixing aspects of the program that can bring down costs, but opposes the Republican approach of repeal which will threaten health care availability.

He strongly supports comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship and will fight to get a vote in the House and will work to build coalitions to get action on a comprehensive bill which the Republican leadership in the House has held back.

Brad is a strong supporter of environmental legislation which has earned repeated Sierra Club endorsements.

On the Iran deal, he had the political courage to publicly oppose it in spite of pressure from Democratic leaders because of many concerns he had about the deal. Now that it is in place, he supports vigorous enforcement to ensure that that Iran is never able to acquire nuclear weapons, unlike his opponent’s irresponsible support for the Trump approach of ripping up a deal that is in place and being implemented and supported by all of our allies.

On campaign finance, he supports action to undo the Citizens United decision which has allowed unlimited money to flow in and influence our elections.

When in Congress, Brad was a member of “No Labels Problem Solvers” of more than 70 Democrats, Republicans and independents that met regularly to build trust and find areas of mutual interest across the aisle, and he was also a member of the New Democratic Coalition working to create new jobs. In the last year, many of his colleagues from the Foreign Affairs Committee have come into the district to campaign for Brad explaining they needed him back in Congress since he was one of the “go to” guys on Israel and the Middle East due to his lifetime of commitment and mastery of the issues from that key region.

Brad’s opponent tries to portray himself as an independent thinker. But when push comes to shove, his opponent supports the Republican leadership, which is reflected in his votes for the conservative Ryan budgets and failure to push for a vote on gun safety legislation which he claims to support. Don’t be misled about his opponent’s positions, or deceived by the distorted commercials that have been run against Brad.

Brad Schneider is indeed a smart, caring, and thoughtful voice and advocate who we need back in Congress. Please join me in casting your vote for Brad.

Sincerely

Elliott Hartstein

Former Mayor of Buffalo Grove
