Supreme Court to Hear Appeal of Highland Park's Assault Weapons Ban

An appeal questioning the power of cities to ban weapons is expected to be heard by the nation's highest court.

The United States Supreme Court was scheduled to hear an appeal of Highland Park’s city ordinance banning semiautomatic assault weapons on Friday, according to the LA Times and other reports.

The justices could refuse to hear the appear - initiated by Lincolnshire pediatrician Dr. Arie Friedman and other gun rights advocates -, with an announcement coming as early as Tuesday morning that cities would hold the authority to restrict the high-powered weapons.

In Friedman vs. City of Highland Park, Friedman claims the city overstepped its boundaries in 2013 by passing an ordinance that violates the Second Amendment.
