SWALCO to Close 5 Electronic Recycling Spots in Lake Co.
Drop-off on Half Day Road in Highland Park is one of five that will close May 1.

LAKE COUNTY, IL - The five electronics recycling facilities in Lake County will close in May after a decision made by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County board this week.
According to a news release from the City of Highland Park, SWALCO member municipalities will no longer pay to continue the program, which is usually supported through state funding.
In addition to the electronics recycling drop-off at the Firearms Training Center, 1180 Half Day Road in Highland Park, SWALCO will also close facilities in Barrington, Ingleside, Grayslake and Waukegan.

Residents of some communities affected by the May 1 closure, including Highland Park, will turn to Lakeshore Recycling Services, which will accept up to one large and three small electronic waste items from the curbside once a month.
"It is disappointing that the City will be forced to close its facility in May, although we are pleased that we are still able to offer electronics recycling to our residents through Lakeshore Recycling Services," said Highland Park City Manager Ghida Neukirch.
