
The beauty of birds is indisputable, but they also provide pivotal ecosystem services. They help plant forests, pollinate flowers, control insect outbreaks, curb disease by scavenging carrion and more. Chris Whelan, an evolutionary ecologist with the Illinois Natural History Survey, will explain efforts to quantify these services in order to support bird conservation by predicting the environmental consequences of bird declines and extinctions.
