On October 7th, 2013 I wrote a Patch article encouraging Lake County to eliminate the political position of Coroner and replace it with a non-elected Medical Examiner. My e-mail correspondences with Aaron Lawlor, Chairman of the Lake County Board, indicated to me that he was totally on board with the change. I'd hoped that this issue would be placed on referendum. What happened last year in regard to the performance of the Coroner (a political position with a history in Lake County of a lack of professionalism, inadequacy and unethical activity that requires no expertise) is well-documented. Why don't our citizens have a right to determine what will best serve us?
