$2100 Social Media Scam + Deadbeat Contractor: Hinsdale Blotter

A contractor allegedly cashes the check without doing the work; someone sends their Facebook "friend" $2100. The moral? Background checks.

HINSDALE, IL — The following crimes were reported in Hinsdale the week of Oct. 4-8, according to the Hinsdale Police Department.

Deceptive Practice

A resident on the 300 block of Claymoor Road claimed that in November 2018, they paid $1,200 to a contractor who cashed the check, but never performed the requested service. The case is pending.

Fraud

A victim on the 500 block of Mills Street was scammed out of $2,100 after an unknown suspect hacked into a friend’s social media account and sent a fraudulent investment opportunity.

Theft

A resident of the 10 block of South Stough Street reported that his $50 recycling bin was taken from the curb.
